Item Description
Lot consists of three typed and signed letters regarding proposed book that author Robert Curtis sought to write as stated in letter. First letter to Milton L. Kaplan of King Features Syndicate requests reprint of Lone Ranger daily strip and reprint of first Sunday page along w/their original publication dates as well as names of writer and artist. This has been folded as mailed and shows scattered handling wear. Fine. Next letter is dated Aug. 12, 1970 and is on KFS letterhead. Letter is from Kaplan and notes Curtis' prior letter has been turned over to Comic Art Editor who will attend to it upon his return from vacation. Folded as mailed, letter has some lt. aging and lower left has some faint creases. VF. Last letter is dated Sept. 1, 1970 and is from Comics Editor Sylvan Byck to Curtis and lists Fran Striker as the first writer on "The Lone Ranger" daily strip w/Ed Kressy serving as artist. Letter also mentions Sept. 11, 1938 as publication date of first Sunday page w/first daily following on Sept. 12. Letter goes on to inform Curtis of Byck's regret that they no longer have examples of the first strip, but mentions enclosure of the proof page/stat of the third daily strip from Sept. 25, 1938. Letter is folded as mailed and Exc. Comes w/original 10x15.75" bw stat which shows moderate handling wear w/creases and .5" tear at bottom right and 1" tear at upper right w/.75x1" area of surface paper lift at this area. VG. Lot also includes clipped example of this same strip from newspaper. Exc. Both this and proof/stat are vintage. Curtis did write books, but his proposed Lone Ranger book never saw publication.
