Item Description
3.5x7x2" deep tin litho bank produced in Germany by Saalheimer and Strauss, c. 1920s. Bank is marked "Bavaria" along w/company logo and double "S" in a circle. Front of bank has high relief Bonzo head w/lever below this w/images of his paws underneath. This is variety w/o text under Bonzo's paws. Bank works and Bonzo extends his tongue for placement of a coin and his eyes also move. Great illustration on back of Bonzo holding a coin while standing in front of a table which holds an example of this very bank. Sides of bank feature geometric designs. Underside has trap door but missing key. Bank has scattered aging and small paint nicks/scratches, mostly along edges w/some scattered wear to Bonzo's raised face. Body has some faint dents, but these are only noticeable in reflected light. Bank is bright and glossy w/deep, rich color. Still an Exc. example of this bank. High grade example, the nicest we've offered in our 48 years. Now is the time to acquire this rare and desirable mechanical character bank (or to upgrade a lesser condition example).
