Item Description
Lot of seven pieces featuring photo images of Popeye impersonators from the 1930s. Lot includes glossy 8x10" still featuring impersonator Harry Foster Welch wearing stuffed sleeves to emulate Popeye's muscles and mask applications on face to further emulate the character. 1/8" tear along center right margin w/scattered corner creases. Fine/VF. 7x8.75" fan photo card features impersonator Jack White w/accordion. Card has facsimile signature and White's facial features have been altered to look more like the character. Moderate handling wear w/some scattered staining. VG. 3.5x5.5" real photo postcard features split image of impersonator Mike Butch, one photo showing his "normal" Popeye face while second shows him w/his lip stretched over his nose. Inked inscription/signature on back. Remaining four items (including three real photo postcards and 4-7/8x7.5" Poll Parrot Shoes premium card features photo images of the most famous Popeye impersonator of the 1930s - Robert Everhart - who portrayed the character for 10 years in nightclubs, the Ringling Bros. circus and Ripleys's World fair shows. Scattered aging and handling wear, Fine overall. Neat lot.
