Item Description
7x11.5" heavy tin litho shovel head depicts Mickey and Minnie Mouse at the beach, Mickey using shovel to dig in sand as Minnie eats from a bowl and Pluto looks at crab. 1930s. Spanish text translates to "Minnie And Mickey At Breakfast." Small copyright text along bottom edge w/manufacturer's mark at lower right. Made in Spain by Rogelio Sanchis (see following item #1801), the first Disney licensee in Spain. Sanchis produced many early movie and comic character tin toys, including Disney, Felix the Cat, Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, etc. for the European market in the early 1930s. Shovel head shows wear from use and has even moderate aging. Tube at top where handle is inserted has some scattered paint nicks. Reverse has some scattered lt. oxidation. Fine overall. Rare and the only known example. Doug & Pat Wengel Collection and this is the actual example shown in their book "Comic Character Metal Sand Toys."
