Item Description
26.25x40" one-sheet features stunning graphics by Western artist Joseph Scheuerle, showing full body image of "Last Of The Plainsmen" Col. Tim McCoy in fancy Western garb w/rifle slung across his arm as he surveys distance. Native American on horseback appears behind him. Large green area of poster is filled w/profile image of several legendary Western figures, including French explorer René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle; Meriwether Lewis of Lewis & Clark; Daniel Boone; Kit Carson; mountain man Jim Bridger; Buffalo Bill Cody and an unnamed Spanish Conquistador. All (aside from previously mentioned Spaniard) have their names incorporated into design. Lewis and Carson also have dates. Printed by Tooker-Moore Litho Co. c. 1938. After making nearly 100 films and traveling w/Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus during 1936-1937, Col. Tim McCoy organized a new railroad show for 1938, which was one of the last Wild West shows to ever tour the US. After a disastrous beginning of the season (April 14 to May 4), McCoy closed the show due to economic reasons. Due to this relatively short period, posters for this venture are scarce to very rare. Posters were printed by Tooker-Moore, but did not utilize stock images as was the norm (see items #813-817). Poster has been folded as issued, but these fold lines do not detract greatly from the overall appearance of the piece. Margins have some handling wear w/a few small scattered tears. Bottom margin has some surface paper wear/staining from removal of date sheet. Corners have small slivers of tape at side edges. VF overall, poster remains clean w/strong color and would display wonderfully if framed. Fred Hoffman Collection.
