Item Description
Thick 18x25" Bainbridge artboard features original art
in pencil that recreates Curt Swan's cover for the Nov., 1967 issue of "Superman" #201, showing Superman towering over Metropolis as a smaller, dejected-looking Clark Kent walks away w/"Daily Planet" newspaper in his pocket. This was for the "Clark Kent Abandons Superman!" storyline written by Cary Bates w/art by Swan. Art has been signed by Swan at bottom right, Swan adding "© Copyright, DC Comics 1994" text/date. Swan (1920-1996) is best known as the artist most associated w/Superman during the period fans and historians call the Silver Age of comic books, Swan produced hundreds of covers and stories from the 1950s through the 1980s. Wonderfully detailed, Swan's pencils recapture the emotion seen on the original cover, w/some extra attention paid to Superman and Clark Kent's faces. Scattered lt. pencil smudging to white areas of art. Two small dots of discoloration at left/right sides. Artboard has some very minor edge/corner tip wear and would still frame for an Exc. display. Franco Toscanini Collection.
