Item Description
17.75x22-3/8" artboard has pen and ink original art by Dorman H. Smith, who began drawing editorial cartoons for Cleveland's NEA Service in 1921 then left in the early 1930s for Chicago's "Herald Examiner" newspaper. Art has small "Give The Little Fellow A Gun" title at top and shows "American Merchant Marine" as small boy in sailor outfit holding up small bird he killed w/slingshot as huge "Foreign Shipping Interests" walks away w/enormous sack marked "A Full Bag Of Game" over his shoulder. In his other hand he holds a large rifle shaped like a steamship. Smith has signed at lower right and bottom margin has some penciled editorial notations. Artboard has scattered aging and dust soiling to margins. Tiny .25" nick to bottom right margin. Fine.
