Item Description
Lot of four stiff artboards w/pen and ink original art by Bert Thomas, a political cartoonist who contributed to "Punch" magazine and created well-known British propaganda posters during World War I and World War II. Artboards measure between 10.5x15" and 12.5x15.25". All are c. 1920s. Cartoons show family w/numerous children arriving at train station, two men golfing, saucy woman shopping for a bathing suit of "Cheaper Quality" so that it will shrink and young boy standing before police explaining theft of apples. Each has captions at bottom margin, first two in pencil w/last two being inked. Golf cartoon has line of glue and paper residue at margins as once matted. Moderate dust soiling to margins, but art could be matted for VF display. Charlie Roberts Collection.
