Item Description
See previous item #1592. This is pen and ink original art for "Indoor Sports" single-panel comic on 9-3/8x14" thin artboard. Art depicts tuxedo-clad man profusely sweating as his friend and boss inform him that the fireman's benefit they are attending is not a full dress occasion, boss stating "Joe, You Stick Out Like A Red Elephant In A Snowstorm" as other firemen laugh in doorway w/image of stork. "Indoor Sports" caption box reads "Slipping The Berry To The Bird Who Wore The Only Full Dress At The Visiting Fireman's Benefit." Art has been signed at lower right and is dated "8-27," 1921. Back of art board has dated "Engraving Order" for Metropolitan Art Craft Co. and order slip attached. Back also has rough profile pencil sketch of man. Art board has even moderate aging w/pinholes at top corners. Penciled date at bottom margin. Fine. See following item #1596.
