Item Description
Pair of thin artboards, 13x13.75" and 12-5/8x13-3/8" w/pen and ink original art. Both are 1950s. One is titled "Winter Comes To Suburbia" in pencil at top margin and has bottom margin date of "Week Jan 10-15." Single-panel comic shows busy neighborhood Winter scene, multiple sleds on the roads, snowplow plowing snow, car wrecking into snowbank and ice hockey game on frozen pond. Second is titled "War Comes To Town" in pencil at top margin and has bottom margin date of "Week July 6-11." Single-panel comic shows busy town square w/American flag, townspeople organizing rubber drive, run on bonds at bank, women discussing drafted man, department store w/"Women's Wear" text crossed out, now reading "Khaki Army Uniforms," etc. Both pieces have been signed in ink at bottom by Chapin, w/"N.W.N.S." initials. Scattered editorial notes at margins and some scattered dust soiling. Fine-VF overall. Don Maris Collection.
