Item Description
First is huge 7.5” celluloid with multi-color pansy border surrounding sepia real photo with color tinting showing young men and two somewhat older men with four of the younger ones displaying baseball gloves and one holding a ball. Reverse is missing the original wire easel but has a thin wire replacement that allows the celluloid to prop up. The celluloid is in Exc. condition and displays glossy and NM. Next is a 7.75” tall oval celluloid showing a player seated with his glove and with “W.E.C. Co.” on his uniform. There is some grey tone and a .5” brown mark on the cream colored background with scattered but light surface wear showing in reflected light. Easel is missing from the reverse which has many scattered brown oxidation marks on the metal back. A piece of masking tape is applied that reads “Gramma Phillips Father Ray Seybert.” Still with full gloss and very good. Third is 4x5” stiff cardboard mount from early 1900s with applied photo of baseball team with crossed bats before them posing in an outdoor setting. Contrast is a bit on the light side. One uniform reads “Trinity” another features a large letter “B” and there are also several different unreadable names. Top of the mount has surface paper loss from a piece of tape removal. Very good. Last is a 7.75” celluloid repeating the photo on the previous item. In this larger version of the photo it is more obvious that the player at the center of the back row is African-American. Reverse is missing original easel but inserted in the slots is a very old short wire with a hole at top center that would allow the piece to be suspended. Scattered but light wear in reflected light. Bottom edge has a small flat spot but it shows little due to the dark brown color of the rim edge. Glossy and Fine. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
