Item Description
8.75x11.75x1" deep cardboard box w/illustrated lid label depicting the Zeppelin LZ-4, which was introduced in 1908 and destroyed later that same year. Made in Bavaria but sold by English company J.W. Spear & Sons, c. 1908. Directions on underside of lid, which also shows other games. Original insert stapled in place as issued, though w/.5" tear. Lid has noticeable fade and slight inward warp w/scattered edge/corner tip wear. Three 1" side panel tears to lid. VG/Fine. Wonderfully illustrated 11x16.75" tri-fold gameboard features various scenes showing zeppelins and dirigibles in flight over Europe, showing Berlin, Paris, London and then New York at end of transatlantic flight. Two scenes of note show airship in race w/early "Aeroplane" and scene showing airship in flames. Some lt. wear/aging but Exc. overall. Comes w/wooden die and six painted cast metal airship playing pieces, showing varying degrees of paint wear. One is missing one foot off base (but still stands). VG/Fine overall.
