Item Description
3/4". with union bug backstamp. Graphic of a cross with text "National Christian Crusader". In 1934, Huey Long formed a national political organization, the Share Our Wealth Society. A network of local clubs was led by national organizer Reverend Gerald L. K. Smith. Upon Long's death and F.D.R.'s "turn to the left", the movement faded. In 1942 St. Louis, Smith launched an anti-Semitic and racist entity named the Christian Nationalist Crusade. Its purpose was to oppose Communism, world government, immigration and integration. We believe this button dates to the 1942 era. Two years later, Smith founded the America First Party and was its presidential candidate. In 1952, General MacArthur was named the party candidate, but with out his endorsement. Cello has tiny, faint grey mark on lower right quadrant and barely seen dot above "T" of "National". Full gloss. First we've seen in our 48 years.
