Item Description
New York City: The 51st State was the platform of the Mailer/Breslin candidacy in 1969 during the Democratic Mayoral Primary. Mailer, the noted novelist and film maker and Breslin a leading newspaper columnist proposed that the city should secede from New York state. Mailer topped the ticket as candidate for Mayor while Breslin ran for office of City Council President. While running a strong grass roots campaign, the ticket finished second to last in the June 17, 1969 primary. These buttons are from the Marshall Levin Collection. Row 2, items #3 and #4 are particularly scarce.All are NM and display Mint. Comes with Hake's COA.
