Item Description
All items in this lot relate to promotion of syndicated radio spots that were five minute segments based on "Stories Of Negro Personalities In The Fields Of Sports, Science, Music, Business, Entertainment, Education and Religion." This was produced for African-American radio stations c. 1954 by Raymond S. Gray Broadcast Productions. It was narrated by Owens w/scripts written by Fletcher Martin, a black journalist, war correspondent and author. A 6x9" promotional mailer folder was printed to promote the program. This includes extensive information and a photo/bio of Owens. Lot comes w/four of the printed folders as well as an original art mock-up all done in lead and colored pencil. There are also two 14x22" art boards w/stats and overlays, three 8x10" bw photos (of the family shown on the folder and the Owens portrait), group of hand written and typed sheets for the text used on the folder as well as other notes, all showing the progression of the project. Other promotion papers and photostat text is included. Some stats are loose from boards. Moderate aging w/some moisture staining. Overall lot is VG to VF. Folder itself is rare, rest of the lot is unique. A very interesting lot for the Owens fan or black Americana collector.
