Original Disney-illustrated (featuring images of Mickey and Minnie Mouse engaged in various activities) paper covered cardboard box is scarce version w/all Disney images, most were generic. Scattered aging and wear w/side panel having aged and heavily worn label. Fine overall and complete w/die-cut insert and original straw packing material. Box contains 11-piece (w/two pieces having accompanying lids) china tea set consisting of 3" tall by 4" long teapot (w/lid), 2" tall by 2.75" wide sugar container (w/lid), 1-3/8" tall creamer, four 3.25" dia. saucers and four 1.25" tall by 2-1/8" dia. teacups. Underside of teapot is marked w/Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney names as well as "Made In Japan" text while sugar is only marked "Made In Japan" on underside. Rest are unmarked. 1930s. Saucers feature great image of prospector Mickey w/images of Minnie Mouse in pioneer dress. Teapot shows cowboy Mickey meeting Minnie in pioneer dress. Each teacup features different image, two for each character This is the first example of a Mickey Mouse tea set with these unusual/charming images that we have seen in our 48 years. Pieces have some lt. scattered wear, but o/w set is VF-Exc. Great design and very attractive w/iridescent glaze. Doug & Pat Wengel Collection.
