Item Description
41.25x77.75" three-sheet poster for original release of the 1951 film distributed by Lippert Pictures Inc. and starring George Reeves as Superman and Phyllis Coates as Lois Lane. The motion picture is the first theatrical feature film based on the DC Comics character Superman (two live-action Superman film serials starring Kirk Alyn had already been shown in cinemas, though in a serial format). The film served as a trial run for the syndicated TV series "Adventures Of Superman," for which it became the only two-part episode, entitled "The Unknown People." Nice graphics include large image of Superman and Lois Lane at center w/two Mole Men w/futuristic weapon at upper right. Separate scene of Superman bending rifle at lower left. Poster was issued in two pieces, though top third lines up perfectly. Poster was folded and has had some moderate color touch-ups/restoration along fold lines. These are most noticeable in yellow and red areas while the rest blend somewhat. "Superman" name in title as well as "Men" in "Mole Men" have also had some color touch-ups. Left margin center has had spot of restoration and Superman's face also has some touch-ups across his cheeks due to fold line. As linen-mounted, poster now displays Fine/VF. Rare and highly sought after poster. Franco Toscanini Collection.
