Item Description
First item is from 1939 and was offered as the “Jack Armstrong Mystery ‘Torpedo’ Flashlight.” This is 1-3/8” diameter by 4.5” long. His name appears on the metal base cap. While we’ve had many of these over the years this is the only example we’ve seen that includes a paper wrapper with bold text “Send For Your Wrist Compass” along with additional information about Jack Armstrong and the product sponsor Bisquick. Wrapper has a few nicks on upper and lower edges but remains complete and Fine. Unit contains its original battery with minor oxidation on the tin outer cover, which has long since stabilized. Also included is tanned 4.25” mailing envelope naming “Jack Armstrong” and a generic cardboard with small magic tape repair which holds the leather strap and brass framed compass beneath a celluloid cover. Strap is VF and the compass itself is NM with golden brass luster. A rare pair.
