Auction #186 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 896 in auction 186
Item Description
This superb condition 15/16” ferrotype features an uncommon portrait of Douglas. Listed as Sullivan SD 1860-37. Front has his full name in large letters along with date 1860. Upper left of his portrait has barely noticeable hairline emulsion ripple that catches reflected light but all emulsion remains in place and his image is exceptionally bright. This side also has Mint luster on the brass frame. On the Johnson side the frame has Mint luster with the exception of pin point tarnish dot bottom left. Image is darker then the obverse but all details remain clear. There is a pin point of excess emulsion on his beard but this shows only in reflected light and the emulsion surface is totally free of scratches and chips. A N. Mint example with scarce Douglas photo.
