Auction #186 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 896 in auction 186
Item Description
Similar to the preceding Lincoln but this is a much larger 41mm (1 9/16) diameter with thick "doughnut" style rim covered on both sides with embossed floral designs. Most silvering is off the rim but metal finishes are very attractive brass coloration. Top rim edge has tiny opening were a wire ring could be placed although none is present. Observe depicts “Stephen A. Douglas.” Bottom left has crescent shaped black mark that hides the details of his right shoulder but rest of suit and facial details are all clearly present, just a small lighter gray mark on the emulsion area of his chin. On the “Hershel V. Johnson” side there is a 1/8” black mark that removes two letters of his first name but otherwise the emulsion surface is Exc. Overall condition is FN. A most impressive rare large size.
