Auction #187 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 926 in auction 187
Item Description
Large 1-1/16" (28mm) ferrotype with brass rim and reverse stickpin that can be held closed with a tiny brass tab. Obverse rim reads "For President 1868 (S.P. Chase)." Brass areas have bright luster while the bkg. around the lettering seems to be of silver just slightly darkened with tarnish over the years. The ferrotype image is bright and crystal clear with just a trivial 1/16" scratch at extreme left. Chase was a Democratic hopeful and this piece is unlisted and the only example we've seen. See additional 1868 Hopeful rarities items 16-18. A marvelous rarity for both the ferrotype and hopeful collector.
