Item Description
5.75x19 1/8" India ink image area on duotone thin art board has three panels with classic images of Superman in two panels. Art is from artist-creator Joe Shuster's shop and likely by Wayne Boring and Stan Kaye. Strip is #1971 for April 30, 1945. Superman is at bat, but decides to use his hand saying "I Don't Want To Send The Ball Into The Next County." The pitcher goes into a rapid wind-up with his "Bazooka Ball", but Superman hits it out of the park as the catcher exclaims "Holy Smoke! It's Headed For Mars! Good-Bye Ball!" Blank margin edges have been trimmed to within 1/8" of panel borders, the word "Good" in the last panel is a neatly done paste-up, and there is a narrow line of white-out near the bottom of all 3 panels. Problems are minor and just mentioned for the sake of accuracy. Excellent appearance overall, complete with "McClure Newspaper Syndicate" copyright sticker. A scarce and choice early example combining the world's greatest Superhero and the great American pastime!
