Item Description
This piece is shown as Hake #262 but the book example is a pinback whereas this piece has a glass mirror on the underside. The mirror is somewhat cloudy but still fully reflective and about 95% of the silvering remains with the loss largely limited to the extreme outer edge. The metal collet has microscopic oxidation pitting but the only effect of this is to make it a dark brown color rather than a black tone. Along the bottom, curl text in white can be read "Copyright Plato. N.Y. 1912." The front of the piece is totally clean and glossy. At the top is an inset .25" circle showing a bull moose at its center. Across the dark jackets of each man are their facsimile signatures "Theodore Roosevelt" and "Hiram W. Johnson." In reflected light there are some widely scattered and extremely tiny pinpoint bumps but they are most noticeable just because of the black background of the piece as they are not even large enough to be felt to the touch. The piece has no stain and has high gloss. The celluloid covered image area is Exc. and displays Mint. Rare.
