Item Description
Hake #3166. 1.75" with W&H back paper. Insertion of the collet caused a tiny 1/8" hairline cut in the folded celluloid mentioned only for total accuracy as it is of virtually no consequence. The front of the piece has wonderful high gloss and all but perfect centering. On the bottom edge at 5 o'clock there is a tiny 1/16" area where the blue background color printed a little thinly. The button's high gloss and almost total absence of surface wear, even under magnification, makes for an overall superb example NM displaying Mint. We know of other examples with a cardboard tag below in the shape of the state of Iowa and designating either Delegate or Alternate dated for the Progressive State Convention in Des Moines held on Sept. 4, 1912. Whether the piece was used solely in Iowa or not there are few surviving examples and the gold/blue colors on this one sets it apart from most of the other 1912 jugate varieties which are either sepia or black and white. A beautiful button.
