Item Description
1.5" silver coin issued by the Mint for circulation in the Orient to compete with the Mexican peso. Other than the drilled hole at the top, the design of this coin has not been altered. Obverse of the coin has a .75" diameter circle of light tarnish but the coin's surface shows very little wear with the ribbon in Liberty's hand reading "Liberty" fully visible as well as the slogan just above the date "In God We Trust." Reverse of the coin has a darker silver patina than the front. An 1887 law was passed authorizing the Treasury to redeem all Trade dollars which were not mutilated as this one is.
