Item Description
7.5x19.5" craft tint artboard has three panel original art for strip #8162 from Feb. 15, 1965. Last panel has NPP copyright strip. Art by Wayne Boring, a comic book artist best known for his work on Superman from the late 1940s to the 1960s. Art did not originally feature Superman, instead focusing on Clark Kent in jail, confronting warden who has falsely imprisoned him. Last panel shows Kent using his telescopic vision to see ailing governor far away. Boring would sell his original art for these daily strips, personally adding remarqued drawings of Superman on the art, as is the case here, w/Superman flying across top of middle panel. This was achieved by Boring using correctional fluid to cover a portion of the original art and adding a pen and ink image of Superman. Boring has added hand-lettered text below art that reads "Superman Added To This Original Comic Strip By Wayne Boring - Pompano Beach - '82." Artboard has some lt. handling wear and aging to tint areas but is o/w VF/Exc. Franco Toscanini Collection.
