Item Description
11-3/8x14.25" thin artboard has 6.5x7.25" overall image area in India ink w/ink wash. Art features great scene of Superman peering through window as young boy whispers to him. A young girl is seen standing out of view holding birthday cake w/lit candles. Large number "10" appears above her, as art was for a Tenth Birthday card. Superman was most likely drawn by a member of the Joe Shuster Studio staff at DC Comics while the rest of the art is by the regular card company artist. Final product card (included in this lot) was printed in 1940, which is only a year after "Superman" #1 hit newsstands in the Summer of 1939. Art has editorial notation in blue pencil at bottom and artboard has scattered dust soiling w/pin holes at top center. Artboard is Fine overall, but art remains Exc. overall. Superman greeting card original art is scarce, this being a wonderful example. Art has been professionally double-matted and framed and is ready for display.
