Item Description
12.75x19.25x4.75" deep wooden hinged lid box has "Thurber, Whyland Co. S.I. Shot Pepper Sifting Tops" text stamped on right side panel. Front panel has partial paper label w/large "S.I. Specially Imported Spice" text and company seal w/image of New York storehouse. 1890s. Underside of lid features large paper label featuring wonderful illustrations of tent w/two men wearing Middle Eastern attire w/Ancient Egyptian obelisk and Sphinx statue in bkg. Another scene shows camel caravan. Text includes "We Sell Pure Spices Only - Pure Spices Are The Most Economical & Those Packed Under Thurbers' S.I. Brand Are Strongest And Freshest." Label has 3" area of moisture staining w/some darkening at camel caravan area as well as at lower right corner. Scattered wear and aging, but mostly complete. Wooden box shows wear at four points of lid as nails were removed to open case. Label on front side panel shows wear, about 75% remaining. VG/Fine overall.
