Item Description
First is DeWitt 1860-74 in white metal and .75". Obverse with portrait reads "Abraham Lincoln Natus. Feb. 12. 1809." Reverse slogan is "Abra-ham Lin-coln Honest Abe Of The West" with a center oval inscribed "Wideawakes." This piece is lustrous white metal and NM. Second is DeWitt 1860-70 in silvered brass, a variety unlisted in DeWitt. DeWitt notes this is the only engraved bust from 1860 which is not in profile and which is "Undoubtedly" based upon the Cooper-Union photograph of Lincoln by Brady. Obverse has text which includes erroneous use of the first name and reads "Abram Lincoln" followed by the slogan "Free Land, Free Speech & Free Men." Reverse shows eagle with "Union Of The States" around. Most silvering remains but the raised areas of the front where it is missing clearly show the metal beneath the silver gilt to be brass. VF. Third is DeWitt 1860-43 in brass and 1-1/8". Front profile with name and "Republican Candidate 1860." Slight smoothing of the details but all remains clear. Reverse has large eagle surrounded by "Liberty Union And Equality." Fine. Don & Mildred Wright Collection.
