Item Description
The die cut stiff papers are each about 1.75x3". There are some small chips off the edges but visually they appear quite intact and each features roses plus a pair of doves surrounding a center portrait of "President Cleveland" or "Mrs. Cleveland." She has a small piece of paper glued to the reverse probably from scrapbook mounting long ago. Both are very clean. The sheet of tin is 2.75x3.75". This is Hake #3062. Beneath the jugate portraits are the office and candidate names. The images are designed as if suspended medallions from a spear accented by spread-wing eagle. Reverse of the piece is covered in black text on silver with some of the larger text reading "A McKinley Tariff Object Lesson/Vote The Democratic Ticket For Tariff Reform." Text points out the very high "McKinley Tariff" on a box of imported tin plate which sells for $5.20 for 100lbs. in New York and reveals out of this the government gets $2.20 which increases the cost of many things used by the working man and homemaker. Scattered dots of silver luster gone from both sides but largely limited to the blank front border. Scarce. Don & Mildred Wright Collection.
