Item Description
See previous item #1063. Offered here is lot of 14 sheets of artpaper, ranging from 4-3/8x6" to 8.5x11". Each features original pen and ink art by Rich Shaw. c. 1942. Some topics/themes of note include - anti-Axis w/"Japanese Navy Day" showing stereotypical depiction of Japanese sailor as seahorse among wrecked Japanese ships, US sailor pouring water on flaming Japanese devil, Uncle Sam as boxer, specific battles mentioned (including Saipan, Tinian and Guam), sailor looking at nearly nude pin-up "baby" (clearly modeled after Vargas pin-up of the same theme), pin-ups (including patriotic theme w/battleships), woman surrounded by various service hats, "Annapolis Mess - The Square Meal (w/Oakland, CA printing company stamp on reverse), savings bonds, Homefront as well as largest sheet w/two cartoons. All art is comical in nature and well done. Scattered glue staining/aging. Fine overall w/VF/Exc. art.
