Item Description
Pair of artboards, measuring 8-7/8x15" and 7-3/8x9". First artboard features two approx. 5x5.5" image areas for pages 26 and 27 of the first printing of this Little Golden Book in 1948 and feature Big Bad Wolf peering around tree and Fifer and Fiddler Pig peering out door of  house of sticks. These ran in full color as seen here in all editions. Other artboard features 6x7" sheet attached to artboard w/art for page 41 of the 1948 edition, and shows the Pigs playing instruments in Practical Pig's house. Art is in full color, whereas it was printed in bw in the first edition in 1948. This art was colorized for the 1956 edition as noted by Western Printing stamp on reverse w/1956 date. This is the same exact art as used in 1948 just in full color w/some details added (ran as page 24 in the abridged version). First artboard has 1-7/8" tear at left center w/5" diagonal crease radiating from tear (partially breaking surface paper w/art) w/areas of tape staining around art, pin holes along edges and faint moisture staining. Artboard itself is VG while art remains clean and would display VF/Exc. if matted and framed. Second artboard has pin holes at margins and piece of aged tape (not affecting art). Would look Exc. if matted and framed. Both artboards have some production notations in margins. Wonderful full color art for a classic Little Golden Book, of which a reading copy is included in this lot.
