Item Description
Sizes are 1.5-2.25". First two are from White Mare a feminist button company owned by Liza Cowan,  a co-editor of Dyke, A Quarterly of Lesbian Culture and Analysis in 1970s NYC. The first is dated 1974 and the second (which includes symbol representing Jewish lesbians) is from 1977. Third has curl text "(c) 20th Anniversary 1967-1987 Oscar Wilde Memorial Bookshop 15 Christopher St. NYC". Fourth, once purple but now very faded, was  issued by "Gay Caucus Of Youth Against War & Facism". Fifth issued for 1976 Bi-Centennial doubles as 7th anniversary issue and reads "Christopher Street Liberation Day Committee". Red star a bit faded. Lower edge "Design And (c) P. Lewis 1976". Sixth is for 10th anniversary of Stonewall. Seventh is circa 1980 with curl naming Young Women's Awakening Forum (YWAF) with slogan "Stonewall Means Fight Back!/Smash Gay & Lesbian Oppression". Row 3 items 1 and 2 in English and Spanish from single day event 9/30/84 "International March For Lesbian And Gay Freedom" Last two buttons feature artist Keith Haring designs. "National Coming Out Day/ October 11" is dated '88 and back names NCOD with D.C. address and slogan"Take Your Next First Step". Final "Stop Aids" button is undated but circa 1990 and marked "K. Haring TM" both front and back. Many scarce buttons, near mint to mint, with exceptions noted. From the Marshall Levin Collection. Comes with Hake's COA.
