Item Description
With the Experience, Hendrix recorded his five hit singles "Hey Joe, Purple Haze, The Wind Cries Mary, Burning Of The Midnight Lamp" and "All Along The Watchtower" and his three most successful albums - "Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love" and "Electric Ladyland." The Jimi Hendrix Experience members were Hendrix, Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell. By April 1969, however, the band was beginning to splinter due in part to Hendrix's deteriorating relations w/Redding and Hendrix feeling his musical development was being hampered by the trio format. Hendrix had also begun to experiment w/psychedelic drugs, leaving him prone to mood swings, which created conflicts w/the band. The original line-up held together long enough to fulfill their existing engagements, culminating in the Denver Pop Festival on June 29, 1969. This 14x21-3/8" stiff paper poster is for a concert that took place during the beginning of the band's downward spiral, a "1 Show Only" performance at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA that took place April 12, 1969 and also featured Buddy Miles and Soft Machine. Concert was produced by Cora Promotions and poster features stylized photo portrait of Hendrix at center w/sunray design surrounding his face. Poster has heavy and obvious aging/wear w/pinholes at corners, 1x1" corner off upper left, .75x1" corner off upper right, .5x1" off lower left and 3/8" hole at bottom right. Top and bottom margins also have pinholes at center as do left/right margins and top/bottom have 2.25" strips of clear tape added to repair .5" and 1" margin tears. Poster has also has tear repairs to back of tears at left center, w/1/8x.25" hole at center. Right center margin has 1/8x.5" piece missing. Poster has a number of horizontal creases traversing entire poster and there is a 2.25" streak of tape staining at left. Just Good. This poster had a very low print run w/only a few surviving examples known to us. While poster has condition issues, this is a case where rarity trumps condition, making this a must-have Jimi Hendrix Experience artifact, despite the worn nature of the piece. Very rare in any condition.
