Item Description
Larger 19.5x35.5" second printing poster for Oct. 31, 1967 concert at Winterland in San Francisco, CA that featured The Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Big Brother & The Holding Co. Poster featured collaboration between artists Stanley Mouse, Rick Griffin and Alton Kelley. Main image of poster is photo of Lon Chaney as The Phantom of the Opera w/numerous smaller repeated maroon images of Chaney's face in an acid blotter design on an orange bkg. Much larger than the original printing poster, this second print poster was intended to be part of a signed and numbered limited edition of 250. These were to be signed and doodled by all three artists although only a single example was completed. Two more were doodled by Mouse and Kelley only. This example features no doodles but has been signed by both Mouse (who added his distinctive running mouse sketch) and Kelley in pencil. Poster has also been hand-numbered "491/500" in pencil at lower left. Exc./NM. One of the most visual of all vintage concert posters, this poster is highly sought after and extremely desirable. A must-have for all concert poster collectors as well as collectors of Universal Monster memorabilia. Rare.
