Item Description
Pair of elaborate die-cut stiff paper envelopes. 5-3/8x5-3/8" envelope shaped like a medal was issued for the 1883 Mardi Gras. This opens in several layers to 9-5/8x12.25" and features several detailed scenes showing various mythologies and religions from around the world. Scattered lt. wear but VF/Exc. 4.5x9.5" envelope shaped like a crown was issued for the 1884 Mardi Gras and opens in levels to 11" dia. Scattered corner tip wear, VF overall. Both are rare as they saw very limited issue among New Orleans high society.
