Item Description
Original 8x10" glossy authenticated and encapsulated as a "Type 1" by PSA/DNA. Superb image of 17 team members in uniforms and posed on a ball field. Pictured are Hall of Fame members Pete Hill (center row, third from right) and Jud Wilson (back row, third from right) along with highly underrated, John Beckwith (back row, fourth from right), an top candidate to be amongst the next group of Negro League players elected to Cooperstown. Also pictured is Negro League star Julio Rojo (front row, far left). Other players on this 1925 team and presumably pictured here are: Connie Day, Harry Jeffries, Oscar "Heavy" Johnson, George Britt, Crush Holloway, Bob McClure, Joe Strong, Bill Force, Jim Jeffries, Wayne Carr, Wilbur Pritchard, Wyman Smith and J. Mungin. Reverse has inked word "Credit" above photographer's ink stamp of "The Penn Studio/903 Penn Avenue, Baltimore, MD." Same studio info is also embossed on the front at lower right corner. Top left corner is missing a .25x1" piece from the border w/other edge wear and trace of aging to the reverse. Front remains totally bright and glossy. Fine. A rare and exceptional Negro League photo for this team which was founded in 1916 and in 1923 became one of the original six teams of the Eastern Colored League.
