Item Description
9" dia. heavy, solid brass charger designed to look like a baseball w/incised Gehrig portrait and "Yankees" logo. Issued for Oldtimer's Day at Yankee Stadium on Aug. 22, 1953. Plate has incised "In Memory Of Lou Gehrig - Native New Yorker" text as well as "Played In The Year Of The 300th Anniversary Of The City Of New York" notation. Gehrig's first season as a New York Yankee was 1923-1924, 1924 being the tricentennial of the founding of New York City. Scattered aging and handling wear. VF. Very limited production for this one-day event, charger was a limited issue to players and VIPs.
