Item Description
6.5" tall solid plaster antique finish statue depicting the "Joy Family" as noted by incised name on front of base. Depicts characters from T.E. Powers' "Joys And Glooms" comic strip. Among the first to create a color comic strip for American newspapers, Powers worked for "The Chicago Herald" in 1894 and then later "The Evening World," becoming one of William Randolph Hearst's favorite artists. .25x.75" chip to arm, scattered dust soiling. Fine overall. An early, rare and esoteric comic statue. First we've seen in our 49 years. Eric Renner Collection.
