Item Description
Original cardboard box w/illustrated lid contains 8" tall tin litho wind-up w/built-in key. Made in Japan by Alps, 1950. Lid features image on top of "Bozo" clown (not the famous TV clown of the same name, but obviously borrowed for this toy) while two side panels steal P.T. Barnum's "The Greatest Show On Earth" slogan and features circus images. Box has professional glue repairs to a number of lid tears and is VG overall. Toy depicts clown in elaborate outfit w/pair of tin litho drums attached at waist. He holds drumsticks. One drumhead features clown portrait. His head has life-like hair accent attachment. Toy works and he rocks back and forth while playing drums. Minute scattered paint marks but Exc. overall. One of the nicer clown wind-ups we've seen.
