Item Description
Original cardboard box w/illustrated lid label contains 6.75" tall jointed metal body figure w/fabric clothing and celluloid head (w/attached hat) and feet that attaches to tin litho base w/tin litho road sign w/"Hollywood" and "Vine" names which when assembled has total height of 8-3/8" tall. Original key attached to pole w/original string and metal loop. Made in Occupied Japan by Alps, 1940s. Box has some minor handling wear w/creases, but remains tight and retains its shape. Label remains bright, clean and Exc. overall. This toy was made in two versions, w/a generic African-American dancer w/"Lenox Avenue" and "125th Street" signs and this scarcer version featuring Fred Astaire's image. Works well, arms rotate as weighted feet move rapidly up/down. Celluloid face has dent to tip of nose w/tiny crack and cloth jacket sleeves have staining from original glue. Fine overall.
