Item Description
12x15.5" envelope w/artist's Ford Beckman's name written on it. Beckman is an artist who crossed over into the fashion world. Offered here is extensive grouping of 30 11x14" artboards, all but six having original pen and ink sketches of a proposed well thought out and extensively detailed 1982 clothing line that would have featured DC Comics' three big characters - Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. This line ultimately never saw production, despite involvement w/DC Comics. Designs include packaging, raincoats for all three characters, long-sleeved "Jersey" shirts, knit shirts, turtlenecks, sweaters, sweater vests, sport pants and Wonder Woman skirts. The six artboards that do not feature art include handwritten "Colorways" color guide for each "Program." Some include fabric swatches and Pantone color samples. Artboards are Exc. Comes w/"DC" envelope that contains three artboards w/tiny attached full color model image of Superman in flight. These were to be used as small breast logos, much like the popular Lacoste golf shirts of the era. Lot also includes large 18x20" artboard w/cut-out printed full body stat showing Superman standing w/his cape billowing in the wind. This has been expertly hand-colored and is Exc. A truly unique lot. Franco Toscanini Collection.
