Item Description
From same large series as previous item #1082. 16" tall painted and glazed ceramic figurine of Wallace Beery in character as Pancho Villa from the 1941 Western "The Bad Man" (Beery also portrayed Villa in the 1934 film "Viva Villa"). Figurine stands on 4.5x6.25" tan base variety. From Vernon Kilns movie star series, ©1940. Inside of base is stamped "Approved By Wallace Beery - Sculptured By Janice Pettee." Both names are facsimile signatures. "By Vernon Potteries, Ltd. - Made In U.S.A." text also appears below names. Wonderfully detailed w/raised flower design around brim of sombrero. Side brim of sombrero has .25x3/8" flake. Tiny hairline on one finger as fired, but o/w figurine is bright, glossy and Exc All from this Vernon Kilns series are rarely seen, and only a few in the series were produced in this large size. First we've offered and as impressive as any Vernon Kilns figurine we've offered in our 49 years.
