Item Description
Published in "Cracked" #99 in March 1972. Lot consists of complete five-page story on thin artboards measuring 13-7/8x17.5" w/India ink and ink wash original art by John Severin. "The Johnny Dick Griffson Show" spoofs "The Johnny Carson Show" as well as other popular talk show personalities like Dick Cavett and Merv Griffin w/caricatures of Ed McMahon and Spiro Agnew w/regular "interruptions" to the cartoon w/blank panels w/editorial text asking Severin if he can squeeze in any advertisements w/humorous responses. Story continues in typical talk show bits before Agnew notices a Lyndon B. Johnson clock on the wall. LBJ shows up in two of last three panels and announces he will not be seeking re-election. All captions and dialogue are paste-overs, some of which have aged. Each page has inked note at top w/"Carson" name/page number and handwritten magazine title/issue number. Margins have some editorial notes. Pin holes along top/bottom margins. Pages have some lt. even aging/handling wear but are VF overall w/Exc. art. Superb and dense graphics throughout w/much humor.
