Item Description
Original cardboard box w/illustrated lid contains 9" long tin litho road roller construction vehicle that is being driven by three-dimensional tin litho robot driver that bears an uncanny resemblance to Robby the Robot from the 1956 sci-fi classic "Forbidden Planet." Sides of engine house have "Construction" text and both top and sides have thin clear plastic covers that allow viewing of pistons that go up/down and the 12 camshafts that pump up/down. Toy also features mystery bump-and-go action. Made in Japan by Daiya, late 1950s. Box features great repeated image of toy within, though w/red paint job instead of green as produced. Box lid has even moderate aging and top panel has .5" puncture and neat glue repairs to 1" H-shaped puncture and 1" puncture/tear (w/backing material on underside of lid. Box remains Fine overall for display. Top of Robby's head has some oxidation to metal strip used to secure front/back halves of figure. Toy shows traces of lt. wear w/a few tiny paint nicks/scratches. Right side plastic engine cover has minor indent but o/w engine covers are free of cracks/splits. Battery box has some oxidation, but this does not affect operation and all functions work. VF/Exc. Rare as boxed.
