Item Description
These range between 7" and 9" tall. The first five have silver or brass metallic fringe and/or tassels and the third and fifth ribbons each have a pin on the top reverse. From left to right the earliest ribbon is dated from 1878 and names "Tornado To Ellicott" along with "Ithaca, N.Y." A few marks on the fabric. Next from 1881 names "Johnson Hose No. 1, Bradford, Pa." The short blue fabric at the top picturing an early hose reel includes text "Where Danger Lurks, There You'll Find Us!" Third is a double layer of fabric naming "Oswego Fire Department/'Brother Firemen We Greet You'" dated for 1882. Fourth with hand painted design on the upper fabric has backing fabric naming "Fifth Annual Parade/Compliments United Hose Bradford" with 1883 date. Fifth has two layers of fabric and the larger piece names "Central Hose, Bradford, Pa" with date of 1887. Last has top ribbon featuring large fancy flocked letter "A" with larger ribbon below naming "Alert Hose, Batavia, N.Y." with date of 1883 also naming Bradford. The second ribbon has just light age tone and is fine while the final four ribbons are VF to Exc. An outstanding early group. See following related group.
