Item Description
1.75" with union bug on the reverse. Pictured in classic fighting stance is full figure photo with text "Jack Dempsey Champion Of The World." Button was produced, most likely, between his July, 1923 Shelby, Mt. fight with Tommy Gibbons and his September, 1926 fight in Philadelphia against Gene Tunney. In the 2008 book by Dr. Paul Muchinsky "Boxing Pinback Buttons" his note accompanying this button is "Perhaps The Most Classic Of All The Boxing Pinbacks Of This Era." The button is totally clean and glossy and essentially Mint as made but we want to mention the surface has five slightly raised lines that extend inward about .25" from the outer edge. These are the result of the button having a highly domed surface and are not any type of damage whatsoever as this is a common feature of buttons of this size and of this era. The only example we can recall offering in our 49 years.
