Item Description
11.25x18.25x2.75" deep box w/hinged lid contains Peter Puppet Playthings Inc. set. ©1954 National Comic Publications Inc. Lid features illustration of Superman w/two boys using exercise equipment, one wearing belt w/"S" logo buckle. Top of box has metal clasp and handle. Inside of lid features seven-panel story of Superman teaching boy how to use set. Box has original blue die-cut cardboard insert that holds pieces in place. Set is complete and unused w/parts consisting of two hand grips w/wooden handles, double spring set w/handles and pair of eyelet screws for use as wall mounts, wooden handled jump rope, fabric measuring tape, illustrated 13"x13" "Superman Muscle Building Chart" w/columns for "Date, Height, Weight, Arm Muscle, Chest, Waist," 7"x13" illustrated "Superman Muscle Building Club" certificate and 1-3/8" dia. "Superman Muscle Building Club" pinback button (see following item #2099). Both chart and certificate are unused though they have been folded. Other generic components show no sign of wear/age and are Exc. overall. Button exhibits minor surface wear but remains glossy and Exc. Box insert has one torn die-cut loop (piece included) and is evenly aged w/some tears at die-cut corners. Insert is Fine. Box exterior shows some scattered wear w/some color touch-ups/restoration along edges of box lid and to "It's Super Fun!" word balloon on lid. Top center of lid has had 1" tear repaired. As is, box displays VF. A classic Superman item and rarely found complete and in this condition. Franco Toscanini Collection.
