Item Description
This rare and large piece is 2.25" tall. At the top is a brass shell eagle with a stickpin on the reverse and a loop in its beak suspending an ornate brass shell frame with mint luster. Ribbon design across the top reads "For President." Below is a five pointed star which holds a circular brass shell accented by an eagle at the top and with ribbon design below that has tiny lettering "President" and "Vice Prest." with the latter being only partially readable as made. The circular ferrotypes have candidate names above and read "Gen. U.S. Grant." and "Schuyler Colfax." Grant has only a pair of near microscopic 1/16" hairline marks on the background while Colfax has a 1/16" emulsion surface loss that removed color from his forehead. An exceptionally ornate, large and rare badge from 1868. VF.
