Item Description
This striking piece is unlisted both in DeWitt and Hake. At the top is an eagle hanger, identical to that on the previous lot, although this piece is missing the stickpin from the reverse. Luster on the eagle is muted but on the star which is 1.75" tall the luster is NM. Tabbed to the center of the star is a raised brass shell circle with a rope like raised design. The ferrotype is extremely bright and clear with text above "Gen. U.S. Grant." This portion of the piece matches DeWitt 1868-84. There are a couple near microscopic emulsion dots off his hair at the upper right but blending extremely well with the remaining detail and overall detracting barely at all. A beautiful piece and a rarity from 1868. Exc.
